POG  was the field of reference at the Library Affinity Meeting  held at Atascocita High School Library on January 6, 2020.

 the Benefits of storytelling in the Classroom: 
Storytelling is the art that predates written history and is a key tool in fields such as health, business, law, education and environmental action.

What storytelling offers students?
Children have an innate love of stories. Stories create magic and a sense of wonder at the world. Stories teach us about life, about ourselves and about others. Storytelling is a unique way for students to develop an understanding, respect and appreciation for other cultures, and can promote positive attitudes for people from different lands, races and religions.
Benefits of using storytelling in the classroom
  • Promote a feeling of well-being and relaxation
  • Increase children's willingness to communicate thoughts and feelings
  • Encourage active participation
  • Increase verbal proficiency
  • Encourage use of imagination and creativity
  • Encourage cooperation between students
  • Enhance listening skills
Storytelling and intercultural understanding

  • allow children to explore their own cultural roots
  • allow children to experience diverse cultures
  • enable children to empathize with unfamiliar people/places/situations
  • offer insights into different traditions and values
  • help children understand how wisdom is common to all peoples/all cultures
  • offer insights into universal life experiences
  • help children consider new ideas
  • reveal differences and commonalities of cultures around the world

 Genrefication:  
  • Supporting Reluctant Readers
    Avid readers in their schools will find a book no matter the organization system. The goal of genrefication is to help reluctant readers. A genrefied collection makes it easier for these students to find books that align with their interests, instead of getting overwhelmed by shelf after shelf and just grabbing a random book when it’s time to check out.
  • Boosting Reader Independence
    Genrefication helps students become more independent in the library by offering cues that help them find books they like on their own
  Board Games:  
Playing board games assists students to 
develop logic and reasoning skills, 
improve critical thinking,
boost spatial reasoning and 
improve concentration and focus for a longer period of time.
